Stone

In working with stone, there is a necessary cooperation between design concept and the inherent character of the stone. The goal is to create a piece that realizes both the artist’s intention and maintains the integrity of the stone. If accomplished, each carving will speak to the viewer with both the voices of intent and material, and awaken an empathetic response.

Bronze

Unlike the subtractive technique of carving with stone, most bronze work begins as clay or wax and the sculptor has a more forgiving medium with which to work – subtracting or adding as needed. Once formed, the softer material is then cast, through a many-stepped process, into bronze, the medium of antiquity.
Penelope’s love of animals and her joy at the interplay of space and shape are the two dominant themes in her stone sculptures and limited edition bronzes.
